Far Away

Far away places with strange-soundin' names

Far away over the sea

Those far away places with the strange-soundin' names

Are callin', callin' me

(part of an old song)

I want to go.
I need to go.

Tropical and Laid-Back

When I saw this photo, I was just going to add it on my Pinterest Cozy-board.
I liked the two red small details - how much freshness they can bring into this
mixture of white bookshelves and sofa!

Oh well, no hope. Of course I had to click for more.
And I found this home!

Tropical Green Point home

Its laid-back style gives this Green Point home a sense of perpetual holiday.

The relaxed home of stylist Julia Stadler and her property analyst husband, Andre, bears no trace of the unremarkable, uninspiring box it once was. But then this couple knows a thing or two about bricks and mortar. With breathtaking views of Cape Town’s harbour, their sprawling Green Point home with a laid-back, island-style aesthetic is an oasis of calm in the centre of the city.

My mind is travelling somewhere in tropic...

Harmony

May I have one more house
- in addition to the beach house and floral summer cottage
where I could live like this?

At those moments when I can not stand colours nor voices.
Just me and a dog.
This would be a perfect spot.

Ever Feel This Way?

"You get a strange feeling when you’re about to leave a place.
Like you’ll not only miss the people you love but you’ll miss
the person you are now at this time and this place,
because you’ll never be this way ever again."

- Azar Nafisi

I do agree.
I have thought about this before.

Happy Weekend!

This whole place is so chic -
out of my league - but just eye candy.

Sweet Summer Boho

Let's skip spring.
Let's just get straight to summer.

I wanna look like this...
Or at least, feel like this.

10 Sentences That Can Change Your Life

I am not really a fan  of  "How to be happy"-mantras and all the inspirational quotes
with a sunset photo on the background. These 10 sentences are pretty good though, as they are.
(Sorry for the original post, I left the pics out :)

10 Sentences That Can Change Your Life

1. “People aren’t against you; they are for themselves.”

2. “Climb mountains not so the world can see you, but so you can see the world.”

3. “You learn more from failure than from success; don’t let it stop you.
Failure builds character.”

4. “The most dangerous risk of all – The risk of spending your life not doing what you want
on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.”

5. “Go where you’re celebrated, not where you’re tolerated.”

6. “The person that you will spend the most time with in your life is yourself,
so you better try to make yourself as interesting as possible.”

7. “If you accept your limitations you go beyond them.”

8. “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing..
that’s why we recommend it daily.”

9. “Everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something, and has lost something.”

10. “Comfort is the enemy of achievement.

Still learning,

Hemingway's Hamburger

Papa's Favorite Wild West Hamburger -
a recipe by a man we still miss.

I saw this recipe going around Facebook last week, but forgot to save the article.
Today I saw it again, and I am sharing the story straight from Esquire here.

I just love home made burgers sometimes. And when they are made with love -
like any other home made meal - there is no way anyone can call it fast food.
And there is no quilt trip afterwards (and no stomach pains)
like it would be the case after visiting burger chain restaurants.

Bette

Ingredients

1lb. ground lean beef
2 cloves, minced garlic
2 little green onions, finely chopped
parsley [sic]
1 heaping teaspoon, India relish
2 tablespoons, capers
1 heaping teaspoon, Spice Islands Sage [sic]
1/2 teaspoon Spice Islands Beau Monde Seasoning
1/2 teaspoon Spice Islands Mei Yen Pepper**
salt and pepper
1 egg, beaten in a cup with a fork
About 1/3 cup dry red or white wine
1 tablespoon cooking oil

What to do

Break up the meat with a fork and scatter the garlic, onion and dry seasonings over it, then mix them into the meat with a fork or your fingers. Let the bowl of meat sit out of the icebox for ten or fifteen minutes while you set the table and make the salad. Add the relish, capers, everything else including wine and let the meat sit, quietly marinating, for another ten minutes if possible.

Now make four fat, juicy patties with your hands. The patties should be an inch thick, and soft in texture but not runny. Have the oil in your frying pan hot but not smoking when you drop the patties and then turn the heat down and fry the burgers about four minutes. Take the pan off the burner and turn the heat high again. Flip the burgers over , put the pan back on the hot fire, then after one minute, turn the heat down again and cook another three minutes. Both sides of the burgers should be crispy brown and the middle pink and juicy.

**Apparently Spice Islands discontinued this. Hat tip goes to Cheryl Lu-Lien Tan at The Paris Review for showing us how to recreate it:
• 9 parts salt
• 9 parts sugar
• 2 parts MSG
If a recipe calls for 1 teaspoon Mei Yen Powder, use 2/3 tsp of the dry recipe (above) mixed with 1/8 tsp of soy sauce.

Versions of this recipe have popped up before, actually, but this document has Hemingway's later editing marks on it, with additions like "Wild West" to the name. It also comes accompanied by a swath of other documents including a confiscation notice for his unregistered rifles that also congratulates him on winning the Nobel Prize the same year.
